Beginning as an original gouache painting of a classic Hawaiian scene by Emma and Isabel, KOA developed into a simplified 2-colour print on subtly lustrous silk/cotton.

Silk
Silk is a natural, biodegradable fiber that decomposes without harming the environment, making it an eco-friendly choice for textiles. Additionally, silk production involves fewer chemicals compared to synthetic fabrics, supporting more sustainable and less polluting manufacturing processes.
Organic Cotton
Organic cotton farming reduces environmental pollution by eliminating the use of synthetic pesticides and fertilisers which helps preserve biodiversity and protect water quality. Additionally, it promotes healthier soil by enhancing its structure and fertility through crop rotation and composting practices.
Unfortunately organic cotton is still not perfect; producing the organic crop uses more resources, like land and water, than conventionally grown cotton. We’ve done a lot of research into the differences between organic and traditional cotton and there are a lot of conflicting opinions. Although there is no simple answer, in our opinion organic cotton is a slightly more sustainable option, so we have chosen to use it wherever possible.
